Looking back at 2023 by Managing Director Jos Derijk

As we approach the end of the year it is a true pleasure to reflect on 2023. And while we prefer to look forward, we take pride in looking back at a year filled with great achievements and memorable milestones.
In my previous year-end review, I promised a major announcement. Last summer, we were happy to share the news that I, along with Sjoerd Treuen, have taken over the Marcelissen. It has been quite an adventure, and half a year later, I am pleased to announce that I am immensely proud to have embarked on this journey with my brother-in-law and good friend, Sjoerd. We will raise our glasses to this during the Christmas festivities.
However, Marcelissen is certainly not just about us. Therefore, I would like to express my appreciation for our entire team. They have worked hard and made a significant contribution to the revenue we have achieved. Not only do we produce fantastic machines to meet customer needs, but our team also provides the essential service and maintenance to keep the production process at our customers optimal.
And exactly therein lies our growth: the combination of top-quality food processing machines and customer-focused service. At Marcelissen, we understand this synergy like no other. We have once again executed several large and impressive projects with our optical sorters. More and more companies recognize the added value we offer: from concept to installation and support, all under one roof.
We have dedicated ourselves to optimizations and innovative developments, such as the automated destoner. Last summer, we were able to combine our trusted quality with unprecedented delivery speed: we produced and delivered a Sliver Remover SR2 within a month to help out a valued customer in Greece.
Our team has not only grown in size over the past months but also in quality. With new, dedicated team members like Ruud and Bart, we ensure that the quality of our machines remains top-notch in the new year and can even improve where possible. And yes, we are already looking for new colleagues to join our team in 2024! Curious about the positions and eager to be part of our team? Feel free to approach me!
Of course, there were also some challenges. But if we can learn from them, we turn them into learning experiences. Since we view learning as an essential part of every development, we actively collaborate with educational institutions like Fontys. We provide interns with great opportunities to explore technology and the manufacturing industry within Marcelissen and participate in the program council of the Centre of Expertise High Tech Systems & Materials. This year, we also took part in the Crafters ’23 event. They were all wonderful experiences!
But what I value most is the camaraderie and the things we do together: The Friday before Carnaval, exercising together (our “Sportief Marcelissen” initiative!), golfing together, celebrating work anniversaries, enjoying ice cream in the summer, having fries during breaks, eating oliebollen (a Dutch specialty), the recent visit from Sinterklaas, and, of course, our annual Christmas dinner! These activities make our team a true family.
On behalf of the entire Marcelissen team, I want to express my sincere thanks to everyone who has contributed to our successful year. Despite the challenging times, you have contributed with positive energy to our successes and developments that we take pride in.
